What Every Chiropractor in Arizona Should Know: Recordkeeping & Compliance are Closely Watched
The Arizona Board of Chiropractic Examiners places a heavy emphasis on proper documentation and compliance with statutes. In fact, the majority of disciplinary actions in Arizona are not for clinical technique, but for recordkeeping, informed consent, advertising, and billing issues.
Key Points:
- Documentation: Each patient record must include history, exam findings, diagnosis, treatment plan, services provided, and progress notes. Skimpy or missing notes are a top cause of board complaints.
- Informed Consent: Arizona requires that you obtain and document informed consent before beginning care.
- Advertising: Claims must be truthful, not misleading, and avoid guarantees of results. The Board regularly reviews advertising complaints.
- Annual CE Requirement: Chiropractors must complete
- 12 hours of continuing education each year, including
- 2 hours in recordkeeping/documentation in even years (except it is also due in 2025 due to transitioning license renewal dates)
